The Master " i "

print

The "i" Master’s degree:  A more specialised and flexible course in a scientific or technological field.

The “i” Master's degree is particularly suited to students who want to specialise in a specific domain and possibly continue on to a doctorate.

This degree is delivered by schools authorised by the French Research and Higher Education Evaluation Agency (AERES). It is recognized as a national Master’s degree.
NB: Only national Master’s degrees such as the "n+" or "i" Master’s degrees) are recognized in the Bologna process as having as having an international Master’s degree equivalent.

The Master’s degree programme requires 120 ECTS credits after a Bachelors degree, in other words two years which we call M1 for the first year and M2 for the second year. However, validation of experience in the country of origin can reduce the length of training in France (18 months or 13 months instead of 24).

This more specialised Master’s degree, focused on a specific scientific or technical area, includes a long training period in a company or research Centre (6 months) during M2.
It is recommended for students with a highly specialised bachelor’s degree in their country and young engineers that have been working for a few years and who want to complete their knowledge in a specific area. This Master’s degree is called an "i" Master’s degree to stress its international structure.
The "i” Master prepares students for engineering studies, research and development and can lead to project and team management positions.

Recognition of previous experience, validation of credits

The Master’s degree corresponds to a block of 120 ECTS credits following a bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Under certain conditions, foreign students can, uniquely for the "i" Master’s degree, obtain validation of previously acquired academic or professional experience. This recognition can reduce the length of training in France to 13 months for a validation of the first year of the Master’s degree (M1 exemption) and to 18 months for a validation of professional experience (Exemption from training course).

Situation 1: Validation of the first year of the Master’s degree (M1) from your country
A student who has successfully completed a program that can be validated as a first year of an "i" Master’s degree will be exempted from M1 in France and can be accepted directly in M2 (13 months i.e. a semester of M2a courses plus a semester of M2b training).
This situation obviously applies to students that come from universities with which the "n+i" Network has signed validation agreements (often MOU double degree (Memorandum of Understanding)), but also to other students provided the French school that delivers the Master’s degree is in agreement.

Situation 2:Validation of experience corresponding to Master’s degree training (M2b)
A young engineer who has worked for a number of years in a company and who has therefore obtained professional experience with his bachelor’s degree can ask that this experience exempt him from the training course required to obtain the "i" Master’s degree. In this case, the candidate will only need to complete the theoretical part of the "i" Master’s degree i.e. 18 months (M1a + M1b + M2a).
This situation applies well to young professionals who wish, after a short experience, to give a boost to their careers as well as to the companies that employ them.

This validation for a specific Master’s degree can occur pursuant to cooperative agreements (MOU) signed between the "n+i" Network (Engineering Campus and schools concerned) and foreign universities. The validation can be accorded other students on presentation of a dossier.

In addition with a long internship in a company in Fance between the M1 and the M2 in France, this scheme can be funded by numerous scholarships from companies.

Level of English
There is no specific requirements concerning the level of English for the "i" Master’s degree even though fluency is recommended.
