Master « n + » : Training in one prestigious engineering Grande Ecole to graduate with the diplôme d'ingénieur français.

Engineering programs in France need 300 credits ECTS . The “n+i” program enables students with a bachelor’s degree who can validate 180 credits maximum relevant to the studies to be admitted for the last 120 credits of the program,

The "n+" Master’s degree : Training in an Engineering Grande Ecole to obtain a prestigious French engineering degree.

In France, engineering studies are prized and lead to an engineering degree (Master’s degree obtained with 300 ECTS credits in conformity with international agreements).

A French engineering degree indicates that a student has obtained initial high level scientific and technical training provided by a high-quality educational establishment.  in addition to this basic training, the engineering degree offers training in human and social sciences, knowledge of corporate affairs (labour law, legislation etc.), ability to become fluent in a foreign language, and industrial training courses etc.
In-company training courses and visits to production sites are part of the training.

The "n+” Master’s degree prepares students for project and team management positions (many company chief executives and directors have been trained as engineers). Given its level, requirements and international recognition, it can be presented as a "Master’s degree with honours" or a Master’s degree in technology and Management. To indicate its extremely comprehensive and more generalist content, it is called the "n+" Master’s degree (n plus).

It is probably useful to recall the specificities of engineering training in France:
  • training is based on a high mathematical content and high level theoretical teaching. Practical applications are dealt with separately in directed exercises, practical work, workshops and training courses.
  • the student is asked to demonstrate his ability to think and explain his thoughts. In a given exercise, the way in which the result is obtained is often considered more important than the result itself. One has to learn therefore how to "set down" one's thoughts
  • the "in-company training courses" are an integral part of the training and enable the student to demonstrate his human capacities and ability to adapt, in preparation for a professional career.

This degree is delivered by schools authorised by the French Commission for Engineering degrees (CTI) and is recognized as a national Master’s degree.
NB: Only national Master’s degrees such as the "n+" or "i" Master’s degrees) are recognized in the Bologna process as having as having an international Master’s degree equivalent.

"n+i" Network schools accept applications from students who have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent and who can validate 180 useful credits (maximum) for the desired training course. This Master’s degree programme requires 120 ECTS credits after a Bachelors degree, in other words two years, which we call M1 for the first year and M2 for the second year.
For this "n+" Master’s degree the length of studies cannot be reduced.

IMPORTANT: Foreign students receive exactly the same degree as French students. With this French degree, France extends the visa by six months (after obtaining the degree) to enable the degree holder to search for work and then, if a job offer is obtained, a work visa.

Level of French in Master « n+ »

The engineering training is taught in French, and so the « n+i » Network offers courses of French language during the packages of linguistic and methodological integration credited by 2 ECTS credits at the end. Whatever the level of the students at arrival, they should reach the B1 level of French test of language at the end of the first semester (M1a, end of PIM) and the level B2, as a mandatory condition at the end of the training (end of M2). The B2 level will bring 2 (two) ECTS credits over the 120 ECTS necessary to get the degree.

Level of English in Master “n+”
Students are required to have a minimum English level (TOEFL 550) to obtain the "n+" Master’s degree. it is important therefore not to neglect English studies in addition to French.*
