The Package for « Methodological integration » is a period of cultural and language adjustment which allows students to gain confidence and also learn about French teaching methods.
This programme is tailored made for international students of “n+i” Network.
This year we have adapted the Package for « Methodological integration » to the leval of students. So, students who have:
- Low level in French and no special knowledge about France and its academic system will continue to benefit of a Full Package for « Methodological integration » organised in common by several schools,
- A medium level of French and who had some contacts with France could choose a Local Package for « Methodological integration » i.e. directly in their engineering school alongside French students.
Students having a very good level in French should be exempted (see conditions for exemptions).
The Full Package for« Methodological integration »
A special tailored made period for international students. This programme is fully integrated to the engineering training. It is included in the curriculum (30 credits ECTS as for any semester) and so there is no extra time.
International students study engineering during this special semester for integration but not yet alongside with French students. Seminar-size courses are taught in French but at a pace suitable for non-French speakers. Students may ask questions in English, get answers in English, and use documents in English or their own language.
During the semester of integration, students get personal help from their tutors: advice and guidance, assistance with housing, and help with administrative procedures and regulatory requirements (registration, bank accounts, visas, residency permits, and so on), academic assistance.
Note : This full package for « Methodological integration » is focused on students entering in a M1 (of one master « n+ » or a master « i »).
The semester (of 30 credits ECTS) has two parts:
Part I (September to December): 10 weeks of 24 hours of course work, for a total of 240 course hours (26 ECTS) and more or less:
1/3 of French culture (language, sociological organization, culture, expression),
1/3 of technology (laboratories, workshops, terminology) in a specific field (for example, mechanical or electrical engineering). Students of all nationalities are grouped by field of study.
1/3 of engineering science (mathematics, physics, chemistry, etc.) relevant to the student’s field
Several schools in similar fields may cooperate to design a joint transition semester for their incoming international students. Part I may therefore be organized by an institution different from the one where the student spend the rest of his or her stay. Transportation and hospitality are well coordinated, of course.
Part II (January to February): 2 up to 6 weeks of adjustment (4 ECTS) at the school where they will earn their degree. In the two-year program spend an additional two to six weeks International students attend classes and laboratories with French students to familiarize themselves with the rhythm of studies and prepare their complete integration with French students, but they still receive special services and attention.
The Local package for « Méthodologique intégration »
Student who has a rather good level in French associated with some contacts with France could start his/her training directly in his/her engineering school. But this student will benefit in the same time of a special assistance and personal tutoring.
This package offers to student, on top of regular classes (30 credits ECTS) alongside French students:
- A personal welcome in his/her school,
- Two hours per week of personal tutoring from professors (depending on the needs, French, Sciences, Technologies) during the first semester of courses. This is a pedagogical assistance but also a psychological support,
- Two hours per week of personal tutoring from French students during the first semester of courses. This is a good support for the home work, and also to discover the school’s life,
- Bilingual documents to help to a better understanding.
Note : This Local package for « Methodological integration », can be chosen by students entering a M1 (d’un master « n+ » or a master « i ») as well as students entering a M2 (d’un master « i »).
ATTENTION :
- The Package for « Methodological integration» is a part of the training, and so, the choice between the two packages (full or local) as well as the exemption is done by the engineering schools,
- The choice of one of these package for “Methodological Integration” (low knowledge of the French environment), imposes the choice of the package for “Cultural Integration” (welcome).
