Eligibility

To be eligible for a Master’s degree course in France, the student has to provide justification that he has at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Student training has to be recognized as being equivalent to 180 ECTS credits.

ATTENTION: it should be noted that:
a)                 the number of years of training or the title of the diploma that you have is not sufficient, you have to show in your application that you have obtained appropriate training (relevant courses and experience etc.) for the training that what you intend to follow in France. For example, a degree obtained over a period of five years may only be taken into account as being equivalent to 180 relevant credits because part of the training received may not be "useful" to the degree course you wish to follow in France! This explains why criteria may vary from one school to another.
b)                 For bachelor's degree studies to be credited, they have to correspond to the French Master’s degree course (for example a bachelor's degree in the "mechanical engineering" domain for a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering).
c)                 It is impossible to totally change subject matter (for example a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering followed by a Master’s degree in Computing). Minor changes can be accepted. For example, a civil engineering course which provides training in the use of calculation codes, computer-assisted drawing and simulations but always connected with civil engineering.

The "n+" Master’s degree

Rules require (CTI), that to obtain an engineering degree and therefore an "n+" Master’s degree, students with a Bachelor’s degree must, compulsorily, complete at least 120 credits, (i.e. in general two years, two enrolments) in the engineering school that delivers the degree. The minimum period in France is therefore 2 years to obtain an "n+" Master’s degree.

The "i" Master’s degree

Rules for delivering an "i" Master’s degree are more flexible and enable skills beyond the level of Bachelor’s degree to be recognized (see "i" Master’s degree). To sum up, a student can obtain credits for training (academic, courses, or professional) of 30 or 60 ECTS credits, to reduce training in France by an equivalent amount (18 months for the validation of 30 credits after a Bachelor’s degree or 13 months for the validation of 60 credits after a Bachelor’s degree).

IMPORTANT: validation
The equivalence (in credits, notes, professional experience) in ECTS credits and eligibility of a candidature (180 ECTS credits or more for the "i" Master’s degree), are decided by "n+i" schools or persons appointed by them to represent them.
