The “n+i” network website will help you find the most suitable laboratory for your PhD research work.
1. Use keywords to search for establishments
2. You can access websites directly to find our more about the courses on offer
3. Contact the “n+i” correspondent in the establishments you are interested in and ask him or her to pass on your CV and cover letter to the professor who supervises PhD theses.
Important: In order to enrol on PhD course, students are required to have:
1. A recognized Master’s degree such as those awarded through the “n+i” network.
2. Authorisation from the Professor who is to supervise your research.
Important: students cannot embark on a PhD without agreement from the research supervisor. The supervisor will decide whether your academic background is suitable for your proposed research subject and therefore if your Master’s is sufficient or whether your require extra training for some parts of the research work.
Working towards an “n+” or an i Master’s in France with the “n+i” network is excellent preparation for students intending to continue to PhD level in France.
With your bicultural training, you might also consider having your research cosupervised by the university in your home country as well as a French school. There are often special grants for cosupervised projects.

No minimum requirement for French
PhD courses in France are not usually taught, unless your supervisor informs you otherwise. Ask for confirmation at the beginning of your thesis!
There are no particular requirements as to the level of French on a PhD course, as English is used in laboratories. However, at the end of the 3 years, it is best to write your thesis and defend it in French.
In any case, it is preferable to attain level B2 by the end of your PhD.
