Paths to success

To boost the success of foreign students in France Engineering schools often recommend that students follow integration packages

These integration packages are designed to resolve housing, insurance and transfer issues etc. These packages also include refresher courses of French lessons and help with methodology to familiarise students with teaching and learning methods (note taking, relations with teachers, writing reports, oral presentation, personal work etc.).

There are three types of package, each with a separate objective:
NoteThe Cultural, Linguistic and Methodology Integration Packages are designed to boost foreign students’ performance. They ae offered by the “n+i” network on behalf of the schools, to help students.
(1) There are in fact two different methodology integration packages, depending on student needs (see details).

The Cultural and Methodology packages are included in the course and require no extra time.
Important: the “n+i” network can also organise a 6-12 monthpre-Master’spreparation course with its foreign partners. The programme is designed for students with weak proficiency in French who wish to be fully prepared for their studies and perhaps adjust their knowledge in science and technology before embarking on the master’s course.

Important: Students who fail the first year may be excluded from the programme or required to resit the first year. This is a traumatic situation for both students and teachers. The network seeks to ensure that all students settle in well. The “n+i” network therefore takes the initiative to enrol students on the packages that it deems key to the student’s success.

Students may provide proof of their level of French when they enrol. If it is deemed sufficient, they will be exempt from the package. (see deadline on calendar)

An exemption is decided on academic grounds only and is never influenced by funds or costs. Failure can be more costly than taking the extra package.

The integration packages are a whole. Students who take either the linguistic or methodology courses automatically take the cultural integration package.
